Steamed Cabbage is really a combination of vegetables, herbs and seasonings that is served as a side dish or a vegetarian entrée by various Caribbean cultures. Steamed cabbage is an easy to make dish that is healthy, delicious and filling. The recipe is below.
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 medium onion , thinly sliced
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 medium carrot, cut into thin strips
1 small green cabbage, shredded
1 small bell pepper
1 sprig thyme
Melt butter in saucepan. Add garlic, salt, onions and black pepper and carrot. Stir and let saute for about 5 minutes. Stir in cabbage, pepper and thyme. Stir well, cover and let simmer and additional 7 to 10 minutes.
* if cabbage is too firm for your taste cook an additional 5 minutes while covered*
Serve with your favourite fish, meat and rice dishes as an entree or a side dish
